Zakat Calculator
Calculate Zakat due on cash, gold, silver, investments and business assets, against either the gold or silver nisab standard.
How Zakat is calculated
This calculator uses the widely-followed standard convention: Zakat is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth — total qualifying assets minus short-term liabilities — owed only if that net wealth meets or exceeds the nisab threshold.
What is nisab?
Nisab is a minimum wealth threshold below which Zakat isn't due. It's commonly benchmarked to the value of either 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver at current prices. The silver standard gives a lower threshold and is the more commonly recommended default, since it means more people in need receive support — but conventions differ, and this is one of several points where scholarly guidance varies.
What counts as zakatable wealth
Generally: cash and bank balances, gold and silver (beyond a personal-use threshold in some rulings), investments and tradeable stocks at current value, and business inventory/receivables. Short-term debts you owe are typically deducted. Rulings differ on specific edge cases — personal jewellery, retirement accounts, and certain investment structures — so this calculator computes the general, standard case.
How to use this calculator
- Enter your assets at current value, and any short-term liabilities owed.
- Choose the gold or silver nisab standard, and enter a current price per gram.
- Read your net zakatable wealth and, if it meets the nisab threshold, the Zakat due.
Frequently asked questions
Both are used across different traditions and guidance. The silver standard produces a lower threshold and is often recommended as the more inclusive default. If you follow guidance from a specific scholar or institution, use whichever standard they recommend.
This is a general calculator and doesn't make that determination for you — treatment of retirement accounts varies by structure and by scholarly ruling. Consult a knowledgeable scholar for guidance specific to your situation.
